POSITION SUMMARY


As a key member of our New Product Development (NDP) Department, you will manage the coordination of all mechanical product development activities at NPD for the bus platform. You will be accountable for the supervision, coordination, and performance of the assigned engineering team members. Personally, and through a group of engineers, designers and draftspersons, you will be responsible for the timely completion and accuracy of assigned tasks at all phases from design stage to the new product maturity. You will work directly with the New Product Engineering Manager - Coach to balance resources and skill sets of the combined NPD engineering team across platform specific projects. You will also collaborate with the Electrical Engineering Manager and Project Leaders for project alignment and achievement of project goals.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Strategizes, evaluates, develops, and executes innovative Mechanical technology and architecture integration.
  • Executes mechanical integration and development activities to ensure new product lines are developed, validated and introduced to enhance New Flyer’s product line and assemblies in accordance to the project plan.
  • Execute systems integration and product developments per project plans & NPD department objectives.
  • Plans and distributes project workload making certain all resources are being used productively to the fullest as well as all processes, and schedules are on time to meet deadlines. Establishes long and short-term goals for all mechanical projects to ensure new or enhanced innovation targets are met.
  • Reviews engineering designs in consideration of the organization’s strategic goals and return on investment.
  • Creates business plans and value propositions with regards to new and existing mechanical technology.
  • Oversees Engineering Lead's support of the bid team to ensure mechanical product integrity is maintained on new bids, approve any new or significant mechanical technical content as well as A/E (approved equal) content. Ensures appropriate interpretation of customer specifications, technical summaries, vendor quotations and other contract documents to ensure compliance with requirements by Engineering Lead.
  • Report on strategy to mitigate technical risk in support of projects & department objectives.
  • Participates in the completion of engineering activities and documentation when necessary.
  • Supports design reviews, FMEAs and other engineering analyses as required.
  • Participates in hiring, training, and development of new employees. Monitors employee’s performance and recommends or initiates personnel action. Analyzes and resolves work problems (employees personal and work related etc.)
  • Establishes effective communication, cooperation, and information flow with other Engineering Groups and departments for design coordination and execution.
  • Provides engineering support to Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Service Support, and other departments as required.
  • Interacts with vendors and customers on design related issues. Ensures that where applicable there is documented vendor approval on new installations or applications.
  • Approves Engineering Documents, Instructions to Service, Shop Floor Instructions, and other documents as authorized.
  • Participates in senior Engineering meetings to review departmental and company issues.
  • Other duties as assigned


WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Proven leadership and project management experience, achieving high performance teams.
  • Proven mechanical design and test knowledge experience.
  • Ability to communicate well in a group setting and within all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills using creativity, critical thinking and reasoning.
  • Motivated self-starter with high level of initiative
  • Computer and other equipment related to essential functions.
  • MS Office Suite, Unigraphics, Oracle, MS Project, related programming software tools
